Gems Zine Cover

Gems (previously known as Fems Zine) is a Naarm/Melbourne-based collective that was created to showcase creative work from others in the community that may not have an opportunity otherwise. Three local friends self-produce the zine tri-annually and fill the pages with art and writing by women and non-binary people, now receiving work from people around world.

In addition to the zine, the friends curate art exhibitions, run markets & hold workshops. So Gems has grown into a little community of it’s own where each of us look forward to the next exhibition or gathering.

Issue 18 – ‘time’ – cover art

It was such a huge honour to be asked to create the cover artwork of issue 18, loosely themed with the topic of ‘time’. To me, time is just the passing of many moments, which I feel can be perfectly shown through Polaroid instant film photograph. I used my usual illustration style to recreate digital versions of the photographs I curated for the cover of this issue. They cover moments of celebration, friendship, family, travel, love and community.
